This month on the Metropolitan Culture Corner we interview author, translator, lecturer and researcher, Dr. Carme Font Paz. Her research explores the marginalization of women’s thought in the early modern period (1500-1770), when the newly invented printing press allowed widespread dissemination of printed materials throughout Europe. Her work is particularly focused on habitually neglected intellectual contributions of female writers during this period of time.
Dr. Font has collaborated with academic institutions and various research projects in countries including Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States, and received research grants both from UCLA and Harvard University. In 2018, she was awarded a prestigious Starting Grant from the European Research Council for Project WINK which stands for “Women’s Invisible Ink: Trans-Genre Writing and the Gendering of Intellectual Value in Early Modernity.”
Last month we spoke with trumpet player, composer, arranger and producer, Raynald Colom. He studied with big names in jazz music and even studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, but his true musical education took place on the streets and stages of New York, Barcelona and other cities around the world. Colom has collaborated with a long list of acclaimed artists in the world of jazz, pop, world-beat and flamenco, and has racked up numerous accolades and awards along the way. When Colom is not recording or touring, he also teaches privately in Barcelona.
