The US choreographer William Forsythe is coming back to the Grec. Forsythe was the director of the Frankfurt Ballet from 1983 to 2004 and is currently one of the leading names in the study of movement. He is returning to the city with a new dance piece in which he has gathered six exceptional dancers to explore the roots and origins of folk dance, hip hop and ballet, showcasing their diverse backgrounds and expressions through physical communication on stage: Rauf Yasit, nicknamed "RubberLegz" for his ability to miraculously contort his body into unthinkable shapes and positions; Lex Ishimoto, a master of many different dance styles; Riley Watts, a multidisciplinary dance artist; Albanian dancer and choreographer Brigel Gjoka; and JA Collective, a creative dance collaboration between Jordan Johnson and Aidan Carberry.
In a fascinating dialogue, the dancers explore the similarities and differences of their respective dance styles, celebrating the unique ways in which each can be embraced and developed. Friends of Forsythe celebrates the diversity of dance cultures with its infinite possibilities, the profound language of dance, and the notion of togetherness.
A performance in the 2024 edition of Grec Festival de Barcelona.
