For millions of years, humans believed that planets were just specks of light that moved through the sky. But with the invention of the telescope, the bands of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn could be observed up close which changed humanity’s perspective on space forever. Little by little, the moons orbiting these planets were also discovered, but any attempt to represent the landscapes of these planets or their moons more or less fell into the realm of science fiction.
After over sixty years of space exploration, all the planets in the solar system and many of their satellites have been photographed. The exhibit “Postcards from Other Worlds” invites guests to travel through the solar system to witness the giant volcanoes of Mars, the frozen deserts of Europa and Enceladus, the mountain range Equatorial Iapetus and much more!
CosmoCaixa’s visually stunning new full-dome projection invites visitors to explore the landscapes of the other planets with which we share the solar system.
