The Can Cadena farmhouse, which gives its name to this urban garden located within a 2,000 m2 space, is part of the old center of the Verneda de Sant Martí. This farmhouse was probably built in the 18th century, and was formerly surrounded by stables and sheds. This allowed the carters who slept in the hostel to store their carts and trucks there. At the end of the last century, Can Cadena became municipal property, and is part of the Sant Martí park complex.
Can Cadena has a farm and a training classroom in organic farming. This has made it possible to offer schools activities aimed at raising awareness of organic farming techniques and the most common animals in the countryside. Another aspect worth highlighting is the photovoltaic collection center that the farmhouse has and which generates around 8,724 kWh/year, the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of four 80 square meter homes. The energy produced saves 940 kg/year of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
