Zelig is a mockumentary in which Woody Allen plays Leonard Zelig, a famous character of the twenties and thirties who has fallen into oblivion. The film traces his debacle of a life through the use of resources associated with the documentary genre—interviews, voice-over, and newsreels of the time—in a fascinating and playful historical pastiche reflecting on American society.

This is the story of a chameleon, a fictional person conceived and constructed in the form of the most convincing of documentaries. It's a technical prodigy destined to make the viewer doubt what he or she sees.
