Woody Allen's passion for jazz is at the origin of his stage name, in homage to the great clarinetist, saxophonist and conductor Woody Herman. In fact, Allen has even said in an interview that his love for jazz is more powerful than his love for the art that has made him famous, cinema.
An amateur clarinetist and erudite collector of classic jazz, Allen has played for years with a band that offers him the pleasure of reminiscing about idols—real and fictitious—on stage, such as Emmet Ray, the protagonist of Sweet and Lowdown, a guitarist (played by Sean Penn) whose fetish referent is Django Reinhardt.
About to turn 88, Allen returns to Barcelona to debut at the Voll-Damm Jazz Festival and continue his work of proselytizing in favor of the best music in the world, jazz.
