Women are never the main characters in the film imagination of the 1960s. They are mistresses of..., daughters of..., mothers of... and their profession often ends with marriage or the arrival of children. Through this selection of films, which revolve around romantic relationships, the vision and character of the woman is perpetually defined by the men around her: as a symbol of social status, as an object of desire or as a memory figure.
Entrance is free, but seats are limited and must be reserved in advance.
July 5, 2023: España otra vez, Jaime Camino (1968)
A foreign doctor who enlisted in the International Brigades during the civil war returns to Barcelona twenty years later to attend a medical congress. Once in the city, he looks for the nurse with whom he had an affair during the war. Past and present overlap like a broken mirror.
July 12, 2023: Noche de vino tinto, José María Nunes (1966)
Noche de vino tinto is one of the most important films of the Barcelona School and the most renowned work of the Spanish-Portuguese José María Nunes. A faithful reflection of the spirit of the youth of his time, this poetic film is considered one of the most famous works of Catalan cinema. A girl and a boy meet at the beginning of the night. Both are disappointed in their respective partners. They don't know each other, but they identify with each other in a shared situation filed with feelings of loneliness and abandonment. They agree to visit the best bars in Barcelona, which he knows so well, in an attempt to reach the ultimate heaven of red wine.
July 19, 2023: El certificado, Vicente Lluch, (1970)
Silvia is a woman from the provinces who travels to Barcelona. There she meets a married man and they become lovers. To appease his jealousy, she gets the hospital to issue her a virginity certificate.
