Casey is a lonely and introverted teenager who decides to participate in the World’s Fair challenge, a disturbing online role-playing game. After publishing a series of videos where she shares her dream experiences with the rest of the users, a mysterious person contacts her claiming to see something special in the clips she uploads.
In We’re All Going To The World’s Fair’s, non-binary filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun introduces us to the fascinating and terrifying world of creepypastas, horror-themed short stories collected and shared through forums, blogs and YouTube videos. Casey, a Generation Z kid with a troubled mind, actively participates in this digital universe blurring the lines between reality and fiction, which are experienced only through a screen.
Strangely magnetic and highly sensory, the viewing of We’re All Going To The World’s Fair’s is an indescribable experience that needs an active and willing viewer. It’s a trip to the most inhospitable corners of the Internet, filled with ASMR sessions, strange viral TikTok dances, a great well of loneliness and above all, a desperate desire for human connection.
The film will be screened in English with Spanish subtitles.
