Ward Hayden and The Outliers

In the long and rich history of country music, small town life has been a recurring and common theme in many of its best songs. On South Shore (2023), the ninth album by singer-songwriter Ward Hayden and his band The Outliers (previously called Girls Guns & Glory) write a new chapter in this tradition, singing to the essential questions of life, love and the world around us, with that authentic honky-tonk touch, and the vibes of early rock and roll.
Hayden formed the band in his mid-twenties when he moved to Boston. There they would be the only group to win both the Boston Music Award for artist of the year and the legendary Beantown award from the WBCN radio network. Accompanied by Josh Kiggans on drums, Cody Nielsen on guitar and Greg Hall on bass, the Outliers are already a reference for American roots music on both sides of the Atlantic. Back in 2018 when they were still called Girls Guns & Glory, they had already released a live album dedicated to reviewing the songs of Hank Williams. Now, coinciding with the centenary of Williams' birth, they are once again rescuing their favorite songs in A Celebration of Hank Williams LIVE. Williams' classic country sound fits like a glove with the band's rockier country beat, acoustic guitar strumming and yodeling style of singing that has so influenced Hayden.
On their new tour, Ward Hayden & the Outliers will be reviewing Hank Williams' repertoire as a tribute to their teacher, in addition to presenting their latest studio album and rescuing some of the classics from their usual songbook. They promise to deliver unforgettable nights of pure American flavor.
