Victoria Lomasko, Portrait and Story
to
Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) Carrer de Montalegre 5, 08001 Barcelona
The graphic artist and activist Victoria Lomasko, winner of the Veu Lliure 2022 Prize awarded by the PEN Català, talks to the illustrator Nadia Hafid about her creative universe, a story in which she makes visible the "Other Russias."
Victoria Lomasko's graphic work is a portrait and, at the same time, a story of the different and lateral Russia. In short, the artist has shown the Other Russias (published in Spanish and Catalan by Godall Edicions, 2020), as the title of her best known book says. At the intersection where art and activism are created, one of the battles against Vladimir Putin's authoritarian regime is fought. In this heterogeneous world, her reflection seems to be one of the guarantees for the future of the post-communist society, although it is nevertheless threatened by tedium, despair and exile.
To close the event, PEN Català will present Victoria Lomasko with the Veu Lliure 2022 award for her determination to show, through her artistic production "other Russias" dissenting from the current governmental discourse.
Event will be held in Spanish, Catalan and Russian with simultaneous translation from Russian to Catalan and Spanish.
