Soprano Emmanuelle de Negri and Le Consort, conducted by promising young harpsichordist Justin Taylor, invite us to enjoy the delicate, poetic world of French Baroque cantatas, a genre that reached its high point in the 18th century. The program is made up of several highly compact pieces, some lasting for just a few minutes. Despite this, they have a powerful dramatic force, expressing sentiments like love, heartbreak, tenderness, vengeance, happiness and tragedy, always overlaid by a sweet, refined, typically French sense of melancholy.
Program
- Louis-Antoine Lefebvre (c. 1700-1763): “Venez chère ombre” from Les regrets
- Louis-Nicolas Clérambault (1676-1749): Sonata in G La félicité, C 52 / Léandre et Héro
