Pavarotti, Carreras, and Domingo, were known as “the three tenors," but their voices were not the same: two of them were lyrical tenors and one was not. Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi were rival sopranos, but Callas was a lyrical soprano while Tebaldi was a different type of soprano altogether.
Are today’s stars Anna Netrebko and Diana Damrau the same type of soprano? And are Jonas Kaufmann and Piotr Beczala the same type of tenor? Is it possible for rivals to work together to make music?
This is a concert where you will discover the typical characteristics of lyrical voices, what types of operas they are suitable for, and the ways in which they are different from other voices.
