The Georgia State Ballet returns to Terrassa for the third time, offering a program of two romantic choreographies: Chopinian and Mozartian, and a neo-classical piece with Georgian traditional music: Sagalobeli.
The first, Chopinian, premiered in Paris under the name of The Sylphs; it is a suite danced to the music of Frederick Chopin and is orchestrated by Alexander Glazunov. A sylph is part of Scandinavian and Germanic mythology—an imaginary creature that lives in forests. With the arrival of Romanticism, sylphs were presented as feminine, ethereal and extremely beautiful flying beings, which provoke a passionate infatuation and are impossible to catch.
Mozartian was the first ballet with music by Tchaikovsky that was danced by George Balanchine's short-lived company Ballet 1933. The choreographer imitated the stylized dance of the 18th century but also made some insertions of the commedia dell’arte using bright and colorful dresses by Christian Berard.
For the final act, Nina Ananiashvili proposed the idea of introducing a characteristic Georgian dance into the program with a score played on Georgian folk instruments. The choreographer has preserved the folkloric character of the music but does so in a non-traditional way, using contemporary dance features.
Prepare to be submerged in two opposite creative universes, meeting fictional creatures who exist within a both a supernatural and an earthly world.
