Known as "the artist among architects," the Mexican Luis Barragán is one of the most famous architects of the 20th century. Upon his death in 1988, much of his work was locked up in a Swiss bunker, hidden from the world. In an attempt to resurrect the life and art of Barragán, artist Jill Magid created a daring project that became a fascinating work of art in itself: an act of tightrope negotiation that explores how far an artist can go to democratize access to art.
Intertwined with pressing social questions is a quieter rumination on mortality and the relationship of the artist’s body to his or her work. Mortality permeates, in the aging of the architecture and within the intimate presence of three generations of the Barragán family. Magid sought to present legacy as something that is potentially alive, and full of possibility.
The screening of this documentary will be in English with Spanish subtitles.
