This exhibition the CaixaForum presents the work of several generations of artists who use contemporary art as a tool to encourage as to think about how we can live differently.
In the wake of the global pandemic —which has shaken our planet and disrupted our way of life — this works invite us to think of the world as a constant collaboration. The virus, a subversive agent emerged from the depths of genetic history reveals a fragile and uncertain world, a network of ecosystems on the brink of collapse.
The Next Mutation focuses on those artistic practices that help us understand the world from a perspective interdependence and plurality. It looks for how proximity to a piece of art positions us as participating entities, and encourages multiple combinations between bodies and objects, seeking in the mixture an appreciation of the differences and alterations of the known that propel us towards a horizon of transformation, a testing ground, to think about how we relate to and inhabit the planet.
Curated by Xavier Acarín Wieland and the Curatorial Call program.
