Tarek Yamani Trio
to
Jamboree Jazz Club, Sala 1 Plaça Reial 17, 08002 Barcelona

Winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Award, pianist Tarek Yamani has shared the stage with figures such as Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona, Zakir Hussein, Esperanza Spalding, Antonio Sánchez, Brian Blade and Vinnie Coliauta.
Born in Beirut, Yamani stands out for constantly playing with the boundaries between African-American, Arabic and electronic music. Since he settled in New York in 2011, he has played as a leader or sideman in the most recognized clubs in the city: Iridium, Smoke, Smalls, Cornelia St. Cafe, The Stone, 55 Bar and more.
At Jamboree he presents a session titled Conceptions of Afro-Arabic Jazz, based on the acclaimed album Lisan Al Tarab: Jazz Conception in Classical Arabic (2014). It consists of a piano-trio exploration of classical Arabic music within the framework of African-American jazz. The result of this unique fusion is a style called "Afro-Tarab," with an aesthetic journey that goes from Egypt at the beginning of the 20th century to contemporary New York culture. In this sense, the repertoire includes everything from reinterpretations of the Arabic muwashahat to self-authored pieces inspired by traditional rhythms and original melodic modes.
