Translated as “simple” in Welsh, SYML is the brainchild of Brian Fennell, a Seattle native and founding member of the band Barcelona. With great emotive songwriting skills, Fennell blends simple piano, minimalist synth and string landscapes, and ethereal vocals to create the sounds of SYML. Due to its cinematographic atmosphere, there are already numerous SYML songs that we can listen to as the soundtrack of television series. His themes tap into the instincts that lead us to places of sanctuary, be it a place or a person. “It's about your identity as a human being; over time we have shared the same drive,” he explains.
SYML's adventure began in 2017, when Brian Fennel decided to go solo with the release of "Where's My Love," reaching Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart for 20 weeks after the song was included in the popular Netflix series Teen Wolf. After his debut in 2019, he has continued to refine his sound, releasing the EP You Knew It Was Me in 2020 and DIM in 2021. The American returns this year with The Day My Father Died, an album with which he narrates his own upbringing, interwoven with experiences of abandonment, adoption, loss, grief and love.
