Strawberry Mansion takes us to a retro-futuristic version of the year 2035. In this dystopian future, the government audits dreams to collect taxes. Auditor James Preble (Kentucker Audley) arrives at artist Arabella’s house with the intention of auditing her dreams. However, her inner world will change his perspective of reality to a point that he could not have foreseen.
Audley, who starred in Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell (2018) and David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (2013), and directed Sylvio (2017) along with Albert Birney, directed this delightfully surrealist film. Audley and Birney achieve an aesthetic consistent with the narrative, complete with an indie-style visual vocabulary and a creative soundtrack. The film constantly transitions between reality and dreams, in a similar fashion to Tim Burton’s imaginary world in Big Fish (2003), following the premise that if you can imagine it, it can be done.
This film will be screened in English with Spanish subtitles.
