Like the rest of us, Mick Hucknall saw his plans for 2020 thrown into disarray by the coronavirus pandemic. Last year was meant to bring him back on the road with Simply Red, the band that has been a superb vehicle for his soulful voice and emotional songwriting since the 1980s. The most recent Simply Red album, 2019's Blue Eyed Soul, was packed with funky, feel-good songs designed to be sung live alongside such well-loved classics as "Stars" and "Holding Back The Years."
Instead of supplying some much-needed cheer, the band was forced to push back its Blue Eyed Soul tour, first to 2021, and now, after much deliberation, to 2022.
With over 60 million albums sold—and a generation of younger fans getting turned on to the band through YouTube, Facebook and TikTok—it should be quite an occasion as one of pop's greatest catalogs goes back to the stage.
