Original works for bands have a special sound all of their own and they make a particularly outstanding impact if they were written by great musicians, like Shostakovich or Schoenberg.

The Barcelona Symphony Band will perform the second Suite for Variety Orchestra by the Russian composer Shostakovich. This includes the famous waltz that Kubrick featured in his film Eyes Wide Shut. They will also play Schoenberg's Theme and Variations, written when the composer eventually settled in the United States.
