Sessa presents his second LP, Estrela Acesa. Its unique sound in modern Brazilian music features an all-female backing choir and Afro-Brazilian percussion. The album just might symbolize a new direction in global pop music.
A regular on the US and Brazilian music scenes for years, and known for his collaborations with the legendary New York guitarist Yonatan Gat and for being one of the co-founders of the São Paulo psych-funk combo Garotas Suecas, Sessa shares his musical vision under his own name.
He sings in Portuguese, with visceral lyrics in the vein of Caetano Veloso and melodic flourishes reminiscent of Tom Jobim or Arthur Verocai. The novelty, however, is a deliberate minimalist treatment that is rare in contemporary Brazilian music that harkens back to Leonard Cohen.
His live shows are already the stuff of legend in his native Brazil. See him perform live at Barcelona’s La Nau.
