In recent years, television series have become an authentic audiovisual phenomenon. Serielizados Fest, the festival organized by the magazine of the same name, celebrates its 12th edition this year with the debut of original series and documentaries. These productions have triumphed on television and at festivals throughout the world and come from countries as diverse as Iceland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Croatia, the United States, Japan and Italy.
British creator, screenwriter and director Sally Wainwright, a major figure in UK television fiction, will be one of the standout international guests in this year's program. Wainwright is best known for acclaimed series such as Happy Valley, one of the BBC’s most recent successes and winner of two BAFTA awards for Best Drama Series, and Gentleman Jack, a historical lesbian-themed drama co-produced by BBC and HBO.
Wainwright is currently in post-production on her new series, Riot Women, (screening on November 8th) about a group of older women who form a punk-rock band to enter a talent show. Over her extensive career, she has also created acclaimed series such as Renegade Nell, Scott & Bailey, and Last Tango in Halifax. One of her main activities during the festival will be a masterclass, where she will talk about her career and her approach to series creation as a showrunner, writer, director and producer.
Other featured series in the 2025 edition include Alberto Rodríguez's Anatomía de un instante (Spain), which opens with the attempted 23-F coup d’état, which took place in Spain in 1981; Yakarta, directed by Elena Trapé, Javier Cámara and Fernando Delgado-Hierro (Spain), Benedikt Erlingsson's The Danish Woman (France, Iceland); Ahmed Abdullahi's A Life’s Worth (France, Sweden); The Gold, directed by Patrick Harkins, Lawrence Gough, Aneil Karia (UK); 37 Secondes directed by Laure de Butler (France); Carles Porta's Missing in Murcia (Spain); and Rodrigo Susarte's Isla Oculta (Chile).
Screenings will be held at the CCCB (Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona), CASA SEAT and Mooby Aribau. The program for 2025 will be announced in September on the festival website.
