Auguste Rodin is one of the most well-known sculptors of all times. He is considered to be the father of modern sculpture due to his break away from the 20th century academic canon in France, despite having mastered the rules of aesthetics of his day. His innovative conception of art allowed him to usher in a new age for sculpture in which the viewer is invited to reflect and embrace each and every aspect of a work by stepping away from the frontal vision and observing it from different perspectives. It was through this enveloping view that dancer and choreographer Sergio Bernal discovered the magic of Rodin and felt the need to bring some of his works to life, in order to further develop Rodin’s intent, by humanising his works through the art of movement.
By making use of different languages that range from classical ballet and baroque to Spanish dance and neo-Classicism, Bernal has selected the three Rodin sculptures that best suit his vision to put together the following ballet: Torse d’homme Louis XIV (physical beauty and strength); The Kiss (love); and The Thinker (the importance of thought and reason). Sergio Bernal, a dancer often invited to participate in the most prestigious galas of this artform, will dance one of the choreographies accompanied by Ciada Rossi, a soloist of Spain’s National Dance Company. To mark the inauguration of the New Peralada Winery designed by RCR Arquitectes, the Festival has scheduled this premier to be a two-night experience of wine oenotourism, culture and gastronomy in a setting where spectators will be able to embark on an intense journey into the depths of Rodin’s sculpture garden.
