Like Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, and Busoni, Sergei Rachmaninof excelled in the interpretation of the canonical repertoire and created his own, highly distinct works, which continue to inspire modern composers.
For example, his Prelude in C-sharp Minor, the second of the five Morceaux de Fantaisie op. 3, quickly became a major success and remains practically a mandatory encore performance in piano recitals. And the works in the series that form Op. 39 are considered to be some of the most demanding pieces in classical music, both from a technical point of view and in exploring the character and mood of each piece.
Hear his works performed live at L’Auditori in Barcelona.
