Though seldom performed, Partenope features captivating music and a charming, wildly imaginative libretto. William Christie will conduct this concert version performed by his prestigious academy, Les Arts Florissants and the winners of 2021' edition of Le Jardin des Voix.
Christie is an authority on Handel’s music, and his interpretation of this masterpiece will capture all the hidden allusions and touches of humour while exploiting the dramatic potential of each and every note.
The plot of this piece of music tells of the trials, tribulations and inner conflicts of Queen Partenope, the founder of Naples, as she tries to choose a husband from among three rival suitors (Arsace, Emilio and Armindo). The ensuing intrigues, strategies and cases of mistaken identity reveal certain profound truths about love and war.
