"Mother Melancholia," Samantha Shay (Iceland, Germany, 2022) at Choreoscope, Barcelona Dance Film Festival.
Mother Melancholia, Samantha Shay (Iceland, Germany, 2022)
Inspired by the similarly titled concept album around the end of the world as we know it by Icelandic songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sóley, Mother Melancholia addresses patriarchal politics and Eco-feminism through a beautiful and disturbing, unreserved meditation on the difficulty and urgency of being fully present in the world. Filmed in the surreal and eroded landscape of Iceland, Mother Melancholia is a quiet but urgent conduit between the inner world of human experience and the planet we inhabit.
Romance, Samantha Shay (Iceland, Germany, 2023)
Filmed in 16mm format in Bausch's iconic and aging Lichtburg rehearsal studio, this piece walks the line that moves between fiction and reality, dance and documentary. Romance is a fertile dialogue between past, present and future generations and, through a fresh and powerful encounter, ensures that the power of an aging legacy is never exhausted.
Films will be screened in original version with Catalan subtitles.
A film in the 2023 edition of Choreoscope, Barcelona Dance Film Festival.
