Thanks to cooperation between the Fundació Privada Montserrat Caballé and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Caballé's dream of staging an edition of The Montserrat Caballé Singing Contest in her beloved Barcelona has come true.

This contest has helped launch the careers of many talented young singers ­– over six thousand individuals from five continents have taken part. Previous winners have made their debuts in the world's foremost opera houses and have gone on to receive acclaim from both critics and the general public. Indeed, many of their names – Pretty Yende, Nadine Sierra, Levy Sekgapane, Pene Pati and others – are already household names in the opera world.

The event is held in a different place each year, and for the first time it will take place in the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
