Originally from San Francisco, with a timeless sound that combines forceful soul and psychedelic rock with touches of funk, the Monophonics has spent a decade and a half making its way to the top. Created in 2005 and directed by singer Kelly Finnigan, the band has released five LPs to date, the most recent being It's Only Us (2020). Themes of broken relationships, mental health problems, armed violence and power struggles are woven into the group's tunes, all with an underlying message of unity, resistance and acceptance. Musically, Monophonics' arrangements are rich with warm and creative textures which both refer to classical structures yet ask questions about the state of today's music, and what the future holds.
