The Fundació Joan Miró and the Museu Picasso, as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso and coincidentally 40 years since the death of Joan Miró, are organizing the Miró-Picasso exhibition, which will be held simultaneously at both venues between October 19, 2023 and February 25, 2024.
The guiding thread of the exhibition starts from two essential concepts: on the one hand, the friendship that Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso maintained throughout their lives, which can be seen in works and documents that record their meetings, and, on the other hand, their recognition in Barcelona, which materialized in the legacy they both left to the city in the form of monographic museums that bear their names. The exhibition also highlights the coincidences and divergences of the two artists in the artistic field.
It is the first time that the Fundació Joan Miró and the Museu Picasso have jointly organized and produced a single exhibition in two institutions that, by themselves, are a clear manifestation of the intense and extensive relationship that Miró and Picasso maintained with the city.
