Mark Turner is one of everyone's weaknesses. A subtly intense, quietly striking saxophonist, Turner returns to present his latest quartet album, Return from the Stars, a marvel of contemporary jazz. Inspired by the writer Stanislav Lem, Return from the Stars is in fact a kind of utopia: beautiful but demanding music, which asks listeners for a unique emotional involvement. The dialogues between Turner's tenor sax and Jason Palmer's trumpet are masterful pieces of gold work. In the rhythm section, Joe Martin's double bass and Jonathan Pinson's drums complete a quartet in top form.
