Marco Mezquida (Maó, 1987) is one of the brightest and most promising appearances on the peninsula's music scene in decades and an artist destined to conquer any imaginable stage in the world.
He has been chosen Musician of the Year four times by the Association of Jazz and Modern Musicians of Catalunya; has presented his solo piano concert in the imposing Palau de la Música, a privilege reserved for pianists with a long history, and has been invited by an endless list of first-rate artists to perform disc recordings and concerts all over the world. He is considered a brilliant composer, pianist, improviser and bandleader.
Marco Mezquida presents his new work Letter To Milos. Published on March 11, and premiered on March 8 at the Teatres del Canal in Madrid, as part of the FIAS 2022 Festival, and on March 10 at the Liceu Conservatory, as part of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. The work contains pieces in which the musicians return to their evocations of traditional Iberian music (sortejat, aguaitat, buleria), to their taste for musical syncretism (in this case, combining Cuban sounds with Brazilian samba) and to their usual nods to romanticism. But they also pay tribute to free jazz, blues, circus music and groove. Marco states that the album is a very sincere testimony of his artistic identity at the moment, at the same time as, obviously, a love letter to his son's first year.
Letter to Milos reunites the original trio with which Marco recorded Ravel's Dreams (2017) and Talismà (2019): Aleix Tobias on percussion and Martín Meléndez on cello.
