Matthew Stephen Ward is an American producer, singer-songwriter and guitarist from Portland, Oregon. He has released ten studio albums since 1999, primarily through independent label Merge Records.
In addition to his solo work, he is a member of indie pop duo She & Him and folk-rock group Monsters of Folk, as well as producing multiple other artists.
The concept of his new work, Think of Spring, is based on translating the songs and all the strings from Lady In Satin to a single acoustic guitar using alternative tunings combined with minimal textures and hardly any studio manipulation. Most of the songs were recorded on a four-track analog Tascam.
Think of Spring is inspired by blues and jazz greats such as Billie Holiday, Ray Ellis, J. J. Johnson, John Fahey and Robert Johnson. See it performed live at the Apolo in Barcelona.
Proceeds from the release of the work will benefit Inner-City Arts & DonorsChoose through the PLUS1 for Black Lives Fund.
