The piece Cançó d’amor i de guerra (Love and War Song) composed by Rafael Martínez Valls is a "zarzuela," or musical comedy, which has become an iconic piece of Catalan music.
The plot of the place takes place in Roussillon in 1793, and the French Revolution is the backdrop for the love story between Eloi, a blacksmith, and Francina, the daughter of the forge's owner. This piece of work is hugely popular in the region and is the perfect piece of music to help you get to know more about Catalan culture.
Hear it performed live at Barcelona’s L’Auditori.
