Lise Davidsen is now one of the most sought-after names in leading opera houses, following her international breakthrough in 2019 with a dazzling début at the Bayreuth Festival and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, with a stunning first solo record released by DECCA. She was awarded first prize in the Operalia and Queen Sonja awards in 2015—a preview of what was to come.
Davidsen has been lauded as the Wagnerian voice of the moment, and is one of the most accomplished lyrical-dramatic sopranos performing today. The Scandinavian singer has a fresh, brilliant voice with a seductive timbre. Her vocal projection, as well as her great technique and expressive interpretations have won over audiences and critics alike, gaining her more fans at every performance.
Her recent performances as Elisabeth in the Tannhäuser at the Bayreuth Festival, and as Leonore in Fidelio at Covent Garden alongside Jonas Kaufmann, were both unforgettable. She has often been compared to Nilsson in her high notes, and to Norwegian Kirsten Flagstad in the richness of her lower range. But the truth is that Lise Davidsen is hailed as the next great lyrical singer of both Wagner and Strauss, although she has assured us that “there is life beyond Wagner.” Her voice has been heralded as one of this century’s greats, and this summer she will perform at Festival Castell de Peralada in what is sure to be a spellbinding recital.
