A rediscovery of the life and work of the painter who lived and worked alongside Max Ernst, André Breton and Pablo Picasso in Paris. Carrington was born into the British aristocracy and soon became an artist as well as Max Ernst's lover during the surrealist period of the 1930s. After Ernst was interned by the Nazis, Carrington had a nervous breakdown and was placed in a Spanish psychiatric asylum. Soon after, she escaped and finally settled in Mexico, where she lived to her maturity as a visionary artist, sculptor and writer. The documentary pays tribute to a woman whose artistic contribution has been historically overlooked.
The feature film won the Grierson Award for Best Art Picture and a Royal Television Society Award.
