Memorializing the dead is part of nearly all cultures, and this social practice is often given expression in art. The works included in the program of this special concert dedicated to people who were loved or admired while they were on this Earth.
Ravel, for example, dedicated Le Tombeau de Couperin, an original work for piano, to the friends he had lost during the First World War. Postcard, by Ticheli, is dedicated to the mother of musician and conductor H. Robert Reynolds, and Kaddish, by William F. Macbeth, is a musical work based on a Jewish prayer associated with the ritual of mourning. M
