Kenny Garrett returns to the festival with a new album under his arm, Sounds from the Ancestors, the 20th album of his career and the 5th he has created under the Mack Avenue record company. In this album, Garrett wants to remember the music of his childhood in Detroit by including elements of jazz, R&B and gospel, and all the sounds of the universe that have surrounded him since then.
“The initial idea was to try to evoke some of the musical sounds that I remember from when I was a child: music that lifts the spirit, like John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme,' Aretha Franklin's 'Amazing Grace,' Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On,' and the spiritual side of the church," said the saxophonist. There are also tributes to musicians who have accompanied him in his professional life such as: Tony Allen, Art Blakey, Roy Hargrove and Chucho Valdés.
