The Barcelona-based KamBrass Quintet will present a program of two canonical pieces, and three more with a Mediterranean flavor. These include the Mini Overture — a short but impressive piece by Witold Lutosławski, which is full of rhythmic changes — and Brass Quintet No. 1 by Victor Ewald, who for many years was considered the first to write works for this type of instrumental ensemble.
The program will continue with Andaluza, a flamenco-influenced piece, and one of the Dotze Danses Espanyoles (Twelve Spanish Dances) by Lleida-born composer Enric Granados, and the more stately Courante Catalonia from Isaac Albéniz’s Suite Española. The show will end with a work written for brass quintet by Pilar Jurado, which reflects her impressions of the Adrian Lyne film Jacob’s Ladder.
