Grace (2021) is the second album by Judi Jackson and has everything to become a classic of the new soul and R&B of the 21st century. The young American vocalist (born in Virginia in 1993), now based in London, grew up listening to Blossom Dearie, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald or Mahalia Jackson.
This, combined with her training in the fundamentals of jazz (she met Wynton Marsalis, one of her essential inspirations, when she was only 14 years old) and an overwhelming personality, is what makes Jackson a major artist. She has opened nights for Mavis Staples and shared the stage with Snarky Puppy, but what really makes her special are her own songs.
