Despite what her band's name may imply, Michelle Zauner is not Japanese but was born in Seoul (South Korea). But, at just nine months old, her parents moved to Eugene, Oregon, so she grew up there under the influence of the golden age of North American indie rock in the late 1990s.
After a remarkable waiting time, 2021 will be the year in which Japanese Breakfast finally establishes itself as the new indie-pop icon that it is, finally embracing a new-found happiness thanks to the publication of its first book, Crying in H Mart, and its third album, Jubilee, the most luminous, vibrant and exuberant of the group's career.
