War has been a part of human societies since the beginning of time, affecting millions of people in various ways. However, the representation of war through narratives and images can have significant political consequences, shaping the opinions of citizens and influencing their mobilization.
In a discussion following the release of his latest book "The Silence of War," cultural critic Antonio Monegal and war specialist Joanna Bourke explore the cultural dimension of military conflicts. They examine how war narratives and images are affected by various limiting and conditioning factors, and how they shape our understanding of history, collective memory, and media representation. Ultimately, the discussion aims to establish possible ethics of representation in the context of war.
The event will be held in Catalan and English with simultaneous translation from English to Catalan.
