The members of Il Volo—Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble—made their debut in 2009 as individual participants on a talent show on the Italian TV channel RAI 1. Their self-titled debut album Il Volo went platinum and entered the US Billboard Top Ten. They were nominated for two Latin Grammy awards for their releases and in 2014, they received the Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group award at the Latin Billboard Awards.
In 2015, the group was the absolute star of the music scene: Il Volo won the 2015 San Remo Music Festival with the song “Grande Amore” and represented Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. 2019 marked ten years in the business for Il Volo: release of its albums Musica and 10 Years with a world tour that was due to follow the album was halted due to COVID-19. The break in live performances enabled Il Volo to concentrate intensively on a new project, working on the repertoire of Ennio Morricone that culminates in 2021 with the album Il Volo sings Morricone and a new world tour.
