Ballet, an inescapable genre to understand the beginnings of twentieth-century music, became for Stravinsky the main vehicle that would project him towards an unstoppable international career. The creation of Pulcinella for Diaguilev's company stands out. And, perhaps paradoxically, both the music and the plot are a retrospective tribute to the Commedia dell'arte and the Baroque composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Lecture by Rafael Esteve, professor of music history.
