Hidden Figures, Theodore Melfi (USA, 2016)
Hidden Figures is adapted from Margot Lee Shetterly's book Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race. The film tells the story of three Black women who used their talents in mathematics and engineering to aid in America’s quest to successfully put an astronaut into orbit and safely return him to Earth. Pushing against racism and sexism, these three women would emerge as pioneers in the STEM fields and inspirations beyond. Suitable for all ages.
The film will be screened in the original English version with Spanish subtitles. Film screening starts at 22:00 in the courtyard. In case of rain the film will be moved inside to the CosmoCaixa auditorium.
Before the film at 21:00 you can see the discussion-show "Materia absurda de cine científico" (Absurd matter of scientific cinema) which pokes fun at the scientific basis of the film that follows. Experts in the field will bring to light the most diverse scientific knowledge and curious facts and they will talk about them rigorously—and with a lot of humor.
Admission to CosmoNits includes access to the museum's exhibits until 23:00.
