Handel's Messiah

Palau de la Música Catalana Carrer Palau de la Música 4-6, 08003 Barcelona
Händel had great success with his operas and with the instrumental music that he wrote for the kings of England he served, but from the age of 50 he devoted himself almost exclusively to oratorios. With The Messiah, he exceeded all expectations.
We all know that Handel's Hallelujah is one of the great hits of classical music. The other parts of The Messiah may be lesser known but are equally as brilliant. When the work was released 280 years ago, its success was tremendous, and since then it has been performed continuously in all parts of the world. It has never gone out of style.
The Palau de la Música Catalana has, of course, carved out space for Christmas musical traditions, and this year the Palau 100 concert series includes Handel's Messiah, performed under the baton of French conductor Laurence Equilbey. Equilbey has received international recognition for founding the Accentus choir, a leading, internationally-recognized professional choral ensemble. Together with the Insula Orchestra, the conductor will perform one of the greatest works of choral repertoire in the world. The concert will feature the voices of four great vocal soloists, led by soprano Louise Alder and tenor Stuart Jackson. “Hallelujah!”
