Flamenco Queer was born in Barcelona in October 2019, the result of the union between the Badalonian bailaor Rubén Heras and the London guitarist Jero Férec. The project proposes a traditional style that starts from identity and claims inclusiveness in flamenco. It appeals to the confluence between the queer, transvestite and flamenco communities that took place in the neighborhoods of Raval and Poble-sec at the beginning of the 20th century.
Flamenco Queer offers a dynamic and aesthetically unique show. Always seeking intersectional representation among artists, with the aim of giving visibility to the queer presence and contribution in all aspects of flamenco culture. At Mas i Mas he presents a new show, Fantasia, which emerged thanks to the reopening of El Molino and his participation in the Molinex cycle, at the Festival Grec 2022. Fantasía revives the magic of the varietés at Paral·lel, recreating spaces that years ago housed all kinds of disciplines and identities. It is a proposal in a cabaret format, which combines the essence of the purest flamenco with the art of cross-dressing, and breaks the stage structure and the division between musicians and traditional dance.
In Fantasía Flamenco Queer represents the identity of each one of its members, from their personality and authenticity, and in remembrance and homage to historical figures such as Bambino, La Lupe, Lola Flores and La Paquera de Jerez, and breaks the scenic structure and the division between the musicians and the traditional dance.
