Five Easy Pieces, Bob Rafelson (USA, 1970).
A modest personal film with a European sensibility focuses more on the characters than the plot and revolves around a pianist who, feeling lost in a fallacious society, abandons his musical career to work in a refinery. When he learns that his father is dying, he travels to his family home in Washington to visit him, taking along his uncouth girlfriend.
The title, Five Easy Pieces, refers to a book for beginner pianists. The story is by Carole Eastman, a screenwriter who specializes in working-class characters and has a keen ear for intonation and humor in dialogue. It is a film by BBS, a production company formed by independent filmmakers that gave rise to films such as Easy Rider, Head and The Last Picture Show.
The film will be screened in English with Catalan subtitles.
