The u22 Barcelona Young Film Festival showcases the finest up-and-coming filmmakers on the Catalan film scene. This year, u22 festival celebrates its seventh edition with a week packed with screenings, panel discussions, open-air sessions, talks and much more. The Official Section showcases 20 short films made by filmmakers under the age of 22, with the year's best young productions, both local and international, including six world premieres and four Catalan premieres. In addition to giving voice to new, yet-to-be-discovered perspectives, the Official Section presents new works by filmmakers such as Víctor Soho (2023 L'Alternativa National Award) and Emilio Hupe (2025 Un Impulso Colectivo Curtmetrages Award at D'A).

Special Guests

Just a few days before the premiere of his new film Historias del buen valle at the San Sebastián Film Festival, documentary filmmaker José Luis Guerin will be at u22, sharing a conversation with Jonás Trueba (Quién lo evitar, Volveréis).

Argentine director and producer Laura Citarella (Trenque Lauquen, Ostende, La Flor) will also be present at this edition for the first retrospective dedicated to the filmmaker in Spain, where her early works can be discovered in small format.

u22 also pays tribute to Catalan filmmaker Marta Balletbò-Coll (Costa Brava, Sévigné), creator of the first Catalan lesbian feature film. Three of her short films will be screened, followed by a conversation between Balletbò-Coll and filmmakers Marc Ferrer (Cut!, Laugh, Sing, Maybe Cry) and Zaida Carmona (My Friend's Friend), a dialogue between three key voices in Catalan queer cinema.

The program also features a wide range of parallel activities such as seminars for professionals, specialist workshops, retrospectives, round tables, pitches and the festival's screenplay laboratory.
