Escher
to
Museu Marítim de Barcelona Avinguda de les Drassanes, 08001 Barcelona
With more than 200 original pieces, the exhibition of works by Maurits Cornelis Escher —one of the world’s most famous graphic artists— offers a retrospective of his enigmatic sketches and paradoxical designs.
In developing his mathematical research, Escher created inexhaustible images, each executed with exceptional detail and precision, and in his most famous masterpieces he represented the concept of infinity in a way no one ever had before. Even today, the international scientific community praises the work of M. C. Escher as a symbol of the interrelationship between art and science. Although his knowledge of mathematics was primarily visual and intuitive, Escher played with architecture and perspective to invent endless, enveloping worlds of wonders.
This exhibition starts with his first realistic engravings and drawings inspired by the nature and landscape of Italy, and continues throughout the trajectory of his career.
