Sorcery and mystery, gypsies murmuring spells, and dancing around a fire. El amor brujo is a tale of passion that goes beyond the living world into the afterlife. The main protagonists of this ballet pantomime are Candelas and Carmelo, plus a former lover of Candelas whose ghost torments her. Incantations, witchcraft and traditional Andalusian music all combine to make this a particularly appealing work. The "Danza ritual del fuego" ("Ritual fire dance") or "Canción del fuego fatuo" ("Song of the will-o'-the-wisp") have become landmarks in 20th century music.
